Managing Partner Katie McCann comments on the rise of the minimum marriage age from 16 to 18 in England and Wales, in eprivateclient.

In welcoming the change, Katie commented that the new legal age of marriage will go “a long way” in reducing the risk of vulnerable children being forced into marriage.
“Particularly with girls, forced marriage involving children has been proven to lead to more physical and mental abuse, reduced educational success and an increase in mental health problems.
It is great news that perpetrators who coerce children into this sort of arrangement will now face the consequences.”
